The Fountain Project is an initiative by Neema Women Tanzania focused on addressing the critical water and sanitation crisis in Tanzania. Only half of the population has access to safe water, and a significant portion lacks improved sanitation. This project aims to alleviate these challenges by providing communities with sustainable access to clean water.

Key Features of the Fountain Project:

1. Water Wells:
   Water wells are crucial for rural communities, offering a source of clean water and preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. These wells are expected to last for many years, providing continuous access to safe water. In many areas, women and girls traditionally spend significant time collecting water, but with the installation of these wells, they can dedicate more time to farming, education, and community development.

2. Community Involvement and Empowerment:
   Before any drilling takes place, the community forms a Water and Sanitation Committee. This committee ensures that the community is actively involved in the project, from organizing the funds for maintenance to appointing members responsible for managing the well. This empowerment model ensures that the local community not only receives the infrastructure but also has the means to maintain and repair it, fostering sustainability.

3. Training for Local Communities:
   In order to maintain the well, local individuals are trained in disassembling, reassembling, and repairing the system. This approach ensures that, should the well need repairs, the community has the knowledge and resources to address the issue swiftly. The goal is to create long-term sustainability for the water system and to use this model as a platform for further community development.
